[01/09/05] Thinning out the leaves

August was rather rainy and Botrytis (gray rot) began to make some damages in the vineyard. The vineyard team from the Clos St Landelin is thinning out the leaves in front of the grapes in order to the wind to dry this fungus. That will stop his propagation.

Let's be carreful not to cut too manny leaves ! The leave, the lung of the vineplant, is absolutely essential for the maturation of the sugar (and the tanins for the pinot-noirs). Moreover, the sun, when it lights the grapes directly, cause a drop in their acidity.
