A guide to Alsace wines

GRAND CRU or great classified growths
These labeled great classified growths all come from exceptional terroirs or georegions (specific geographic location, topography, soil and climate) that have been confirmed by official decree. The grand cru hillsides are classified and given a label by the National Institute of Appellations of Origin (INAO) and rigorously selected and protected. They produce unique wines with a particular personality.  
 
SYLVANER
Fresh and fruity, it will fit your appetizers and fishes. With a good maturity level, it will even support your cheeses.
 
PINOT BLANC
Supple and fruity, with butter and hazelnut aromas, it's the classical alsatian wine.
 
RIESLING
With a matchless freshness and a delicate fruit, it will really suit your fishes and also your white meats. The minerality, that often balance really intersting fruity hints, make riesling a big tasting wine.
 
MUSCAT D'ALSACE

The typical freshness and the delicate fruity hints of muscat make a good aperitif wine. It's the ideal wine for asparagus and Munster cheese.

 
PINOT GRIS
The pinot gris reveals a unique fatness and aroma. A dry one, with its complex aromas will be the best companion of your white meats. Sweeter,  pinot gris is a very rich wine. It will suit to robust courses, like pheasant or exotic meals.
 
GEWURTZTRAMINER
With  caracteristics fruit tints, gewurztraminer is always amazing. It's a powerfull variety and often got spicy and floral aromas. Perfect for apetizers or desserts, it can suit well to spicy or exotic courses.
 
PINOT NOIR
It's an attractive ruby red wine. Young, it has got fresh fruit aromas, and evolve to complex leather and underwood tints. It can be drunk on red meats and games.
 
CREMANT D'ALSACE (sparkling wine)
Delicate, elegant, with fine, persistent bubbles, crémant is the best way to begin a dinner or to celebrate a big event. Demi-sec crémant is marvelous to serve with your desserts.
 
VENDANGES TARDIVES or late harves wines
  These are great wines made from well ripened grapes harvested by successive pickings. Powerful and full of complex aromas and flavors, they can be drunk alone or as a before dinner drink. They are a perfect match with goose liver and flavorsome dishes.
 
SELECTION DE GRAINS NOBLES or noble rot sweet wines
The most precious wine in a cellar made from grapes that have noble rot. It is a rich and mellow wine with dried fruit aromas. A concentrated sweet wine to serve as a sumptuous conclusion to your meal. A gourmet's delight.
